In establishing a reputation for insightful analysis and opinion on current events married with religious ideas, Islamicate endeavours to establish itself as one of the most widely recognised and well-read Islamic current affairs websites in the western world. Speaking from a position within the western world, Islamicate seeks to examine religious and political cultures and form a relevant trend in contemporary western Muslim thought. We wish to provoke critical debates and offer thought provoking analysis on matters affecting Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Islamicate is the space where Muslim voices take part in the conversation necessary to advance and mature British and, broadly speaking, Muslim western culture.
It is hoped that the website will become increasingly known for insightful narratives about events in progress, as well as studying society, engaging in key political discussions, exploring culture and expounding intelligent religious ideas. For Muslims to remain faithful to their religious identity they need a cultural space that melds the best of the majority culture with elements that are specific to Muslims. This patchwork can be pieced together at Islamicate as an exciting cultural production that is both current and in keeping with Islamic values.
Above all, we believe that there is a need for a space when mature debate can take place within the Muslim community. We therefore strongly encourage our contributors to put forward innovative ideas that might enable community progression, and to address taboos and controversial subjects with the aim of promoting rich discussion and challenging preconceived notions. In light of this, the views expressed in the articles published on Islamicate are those of our contributors, and do not necessarily reflect Islamicate’s editorial policy.
